CAREERS IN GOVERNMENT SEVICES
For many students, the ultimate ambition is still a government job. And in times of recession, more and more students are opting for careers in the government. The key benefits of a career in government are :
Job security : A government job is for a lifetime. There is close to zero chance of losing a job. Given the insecurities in the private sector this is an attraction for many students.
Pay and Perks: The 6th pay commission has ensured that government employees get salaries almost as good as top private sector companies. This is especially true if we include various perks like Housing, allowances, LTA etc.
Power and Respect: A government officer takes decisions that affect the lives of people. That gives them respect in society, especially among elders.
Public Service: A government officer can take steps, which help the ordinary man. This can be considered as service to the nation. Large vacancies created by retirement of people recruited 25-30 years backs.
